This week, I have attended DEİK - Foreign Economic Relations Board Indonesia-Türkiye Business Forum in Jakarta as part of the official visit of our President, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Having cultivated business relationships and closely monitored investment opportunities in Indonesia for many years, this forum provided an excellent platform to engage in productive discussions about the future of the energy and infrastructure sectors.
Both countries have signed a number of Memorandum of Understandings (MOU) in many industries including defense, food, education, renewable energy and trade. The signing of the MOU between Energy Ministries was the most important for me; as it was about promotion of geothermal energy and energy transition between two countries. After the signing of the MOUs, the Indonesia-Türkiye Business Forum was held and business leaders from two countries came together in a warm and welcoming environment,
As part of our official engagements, prior to the forum, we had the honor of meeting Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon , and Indonesia’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Achmad Rizal Purnama, at the National Museum. We exchanged ideas on strengthening cultural and economic collaborations between our nations. After the museum visit, we held discussions with the Indonesian Ministry of Energy on various topics and presented the Ottoman-Indonesian Relations book, prepared as part of Hitay Holding ’s cultural initiative, to the ministry officials.
My connection with Indonesia dates back to 2008, when I was appointed as Honorary Consul. Over the years, as I became more familiar with the region, I recognized the immense potential of geothermal energy. In 2011, we took a significant step by establishing Hitay Energy Holdingsand entering the Indonesian market. Today, we hold geothermal licenses across 7 sites on Java and Sumatra Islands.
Although the pandemic forced us to pause operations in 2020, we reinitiated our projects in 2022. Our investments in the region have now exceeded $50 million, and we remain committed to driving energy transformation in Indonesia.
Indonesia’s current geothermal energy production has surpassed 2,500 MW, with further growth on the horizon. Our goal is to reach a capacity of 1,000 MW, positioning ourselves as a key player in the global geothermal sector.
I extend my gratitude to DEIK, our Indonesian partners, and all industry stakeholders who contributed to this invaluable forum. In business, opportunities matter, but connecting with the right people in the right setting is just as crucial.
I remain optimistic about 2025, and we will continue expanding our energy investments, focusing on sustainable projects, and strengthening Hitay Energy Holdings ’ global presence.
